Please Stand By: Technical Difficulties

Thank you for your patience as I recover from the flu. I became quite ill Thursday evening and have been incapacitated for the last few days. I was able to get a prescription for Tamiflu, but I need one more day to recover. Please keep doing what you do best!

First off:
Sketches of the Week
  • Art I: Free Choice or Phobias
  • Art III: Free Choice or Objects wrapped in foil
  • Art I/S: From the list or Try a Collaborative Sketch with another student!
Art I
On Friday, you went to tessellations.org and shared two facts about tessellations. You also sketched 3 plans for a tessellation on Page 32 of your sketchbook.

Monday's Objectives:
  • First, check out the Jim McNeill demo to learn about rotation and translation.
  • Second, check out the "Do It Yourself" section on tessellations.org for more ideas.
  • Which technique appeals to you? Why? Choose a technique that you feel you can use to create a successful tessellation
  • Grab one sheet of 12" x 18" drawing paper and a 3" x 5" index card from the gray cart. Today, you should get started with the basic outlines.
  • Although you might use different techniques to create your tessellation (due this Friday), your work will be assessed by:
  1. Accurate and well-crafted tessellations.
  2. Understanding of geometric and organic shapes.
  3. Effective use of repetition, pattern, and one of the following techniques: translation, rotation, reflection, or glide reflection
  4. Use of a simple color harmony
  5. Creative subject matter. "But WHAT should it be about?" It's up to you and your wonderfully creative minds!
Art 3
Have you finished your portrait? If not, please take today to complete. If you are complete, it's time for the assessment.
