September Sketches

In looking at sketches posted on the blog, when you "like" a sketch, why do you like it? Be specific in your reflection.

  1. some of these sketches are pretty good. maybe add some color to give it a very good composition to it, but other than that, they're cool.

  2. These are awesome, awesome sketches! I agree with Marlene though, they would look even more amazing with even a little splash of color!

  3. I think that the sketches with great detail and a lot of shading are really cool and look amazing. i really liked the doll with all of the pins sticking out. it was a dark one.

  4. i like things that don't have a lot of color and that are kind of abstract, i like things that not everyone would think of when you say something like "draw a park."

  5. I agree. I enjoy interpreting it in a way that is not always straight forward, and is less obvious. When I sketch or do a drawing I avoid coloring it because I don't have a good understanding of color and color schemes. I know what they are and how they work but I don't have any practice using them.

  7. Whenever I like a sketch, it means that that sketch has something worth looking at, or something that pops out, something different than the others. I may like a sketch for it's simplicity, how the artist's work is clean and neat so the details are really showing. The sketch can also be an abstract, and I love the way the art piece expresses movement. I love how abstract art pieces make you think.

  12. When ever i like a sketch, it has to be detailed and it has to have a meaning and it has shows what you are feeling in that drawing.

  13. I think i would have to both agree and disagree with the whole "color/no color" conversation. Some drawings would look great with color, the color could help some details in the art piece pop out. Where as some pieces look amazing just in black and white, and shading could really play a big part in that.. All of those drawings up there are

    A W E S O M E..!

  14. As Queenie mentioned, it definitely is about what makes an image "pop." This has to do with the art principle called contrast (differences). Greater contrast is usually caused by big differences.

That doesn't mean that adding color is a good thing or a bad thing, as Kim mentioned. Keeping people visually interested is about using all of the tools we're learning about--the elements and principles of art--to create strong artworks.
