Font Boxes

Font boxes are on display in the library. Go check them out! What do you think makes a work worthy of display? Why do artworks get placed in galleries? What is the point of publicly displaying artwork?

  1. I say that if a painting is displayed, it's because it's unique, it doesn't have the same things, that you can see in your way, what you think of it other what the artist made it to be, but even though what the artist meant to be counts, it's mostly about the viewers, what they feel or what they think when they look at it.

  3. It's really cool that our artwork can be displayed for all to see. It might inspire someone on the outside of our class. Viewers could interpruit the boxes any way they wanted. Really COOL!

  4. Because they are different from the normal and are eye catching. If they are all the same, they are not amazing

  6. what makes a work worthy of display is that its well crafted and very creative. Also because it is a difficiult thing to be done. the reason why they get placed in galleries is to show peeople how beautiful art can be.

  7. I assume that artwork with great craftsmanship and creativity that depicts a meaning to something should be allowed to be shared in public.

  8. I think that a work of art is worthy of display if it carries meaning, or can tell a story. Maybe the artwork is very well crafted or abstract, or hideously ugly, they can all still be beautiful. Artworks are placed in galleries to be criticized or enjoyed. They are there to show an opinion of something.

  12. I think anything that somebody took time out to do is worthy of display because no matter what it looks like they tried.

  13. If someone had spend time on a piece. And they feel that that piece is really important for them. And they want to express that piece to the world or to other people it can be displayed.

  14. Thanks to those of you that responded to the questions. As Marlene, Natalie, Juan, Estevan, Samantha and Carmen mentioned, the viewer becomes such an critical component of the art process. It's not as deeply philosophical as "If a tree falls in the forest, does it make a noise?" Artwork still exists if it is never shown to others. But, the viewer can provide feedback. And an artist can control responses, too.

Art is not always made just to express ourselves. If we are making art for social, political, religious, etc., reasons, then public display is essential, don't you think?
